The Founders Christian School cross country program has been one of the school’s most successful programs. At the junior high level, the FCS cross country program has produced numerous district champions in both boys’ and girls’ divisions. In 2015 Founders Christian School added a freshman class, and the school’s inaugural varsity cross country season was afoot. In that season, with only a freshman class, the FCS varsity cross country program produced the men’s state runner-up in TAPPS Division A. Coach Scott Bacher, an alumnus of the Ohio State University’s cross country program, brings 33 years of teaching and coaching experience to the table. Coach Bacher believes that, while the excellent development of the cross country athlete is important, nothing is as important as the development of the spiritual aspect of the person (I Tim. 4:8). At FCS, we believe athletic competition provides a perfect forum for developing the understanding that God created our bodies and they are to be used in ways that bring glory to Him. Additionally, the habits of perseverance, discipline, work ethic, team work, submission to authority, winning and losing with honor, response to adversity, and the like, are developed through participation in athletics. Moreover, these traits, when developed, are transferrable to all walks of life, including the spiritual life of the athlete.

For the past fifteen years, Dan Baker has been coaching cross country, basketball, and track on a number of levels. In his most recent season as a varsity level basketball coach, Coach Baker's team made an appearance in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) 1-A state championship game. Coach Baker is also a USATF level 1 certified track and field coach, and his accompishments in track and field and cross country speak for themselves. Coach Baker has coached district and state-level champions and runners-up on the junior high and high school levels in each of his track and field and cross country seasons at FCS. Coach Baker's true value, however, lies in the fact that his concern is not merely for physical development, but especially for the Christian faith and character of the athletes he trains.
Joe Jones has coached cross country, basketball, and track in the Houston area since 2005. He has led four cross country teams to TAPPS 1A state championships, and made numerous trips to the TAPPS 1A basketball playoffs, reaching the state tournament in 2008 and the state championship game in 2010. Coach Jones views his coaching responsibilities as much more than winning championships - his primary focus is on helping athletes grow in their ability to engage in competition to the glory of God by applying biblical principles that point his athletes to Christ.
